This holiday season give a meaningful gift.
The beautiful towns of Aibonito, Barranquitas, Toa Baja and Vieques Island are home to children living in Puerto Rico with some of the highest poverty rates on the Island.
To address the problem, Friends of Puerto Rico created SEEDS; a youth entrepreneurship program to provide a long-term solution to youth poverty, and develop a generation that will create a strong economy for Puerto Rico. With your support, SEEDS launched in September 2019 with 100 students from the ages of 9 to 12 at five public schools in Puerto Rico and Vieques.
In eight months, the program will teach the students how to have an entrepreneurial mindset complemented with hands-on business experience through Friends of Puerto Rico‘s Café Ama microbusiness. After the program, many of these 100 students will create their own small businesses, and start a new way of life in Puerto Rico.
We are making great progress, but we can’t do it without your continued support.
For young leader Kiara Liz, a ten-year-old who lives with her family in the small town of Aibonito, SEEDS has already caused a positive shift in her life. Mrs. Lianette, Kiara’s teacher, said that at the beginning of the program, Kiara was very shy. Now, just ten weeks after being enrolled at SEEDS, she is a different student. Kiara is taking the lead when selling coffee and serving as the class treasurer. She shared with us that her dream is to be a chef, open her own restaurant, and share her love for Puerto Rican food with others.
There are 99 other students like Kiara enrolled in SEEDS and they are the future of Puerto Rico.
You have the power to impact their lives forever and be part of this new generation of changemakers by giving the #giftofSEEDS.
By making a gift today, you're giving students like Kiara the opportunity to continue participating in this program.
